Bird Counts

Two Bird Counts are organized each year by the Dataw Conservancy. The Christmas Bird Count is one day in mid-December and the Great Backyard Bird Count takes place over a weekend in Mid February.

Volunteers attend a short training class and then walk different areas of the island making their counts. The birds on Dataw Island are thriving and our counts have been increasing each year. This is largely due to the natural habitats that have been preserved and the commitment of volunteers making the counts.
